Yes, slavery is part of our history. Yes, racism is an issue we struggle with. Yes, we need to acknowledge both nobility and disgrace in our national story, and commit to go forward with common sense, compassion, and confidence that we can create something that no one has yet seriously envisioned actually building: a Civilization of Love.
